Diane Tober is a medical anthropologist and documentary filmmaker. She received her PhD from University of California, Berkeley. She is also an Assistant Professor at University of California, San Francisco Institute for Health and Aging, a former Women’s Policy Institute Fellow, and worked in non-profit leadership. She has been researching topics related to infertility for the past 25-plus years, exploring people’s experiences with infertility, sperm donor decisions and experiences. Her forthcoming book, Romancing the Sperm: Shifting Biopolitics and the Making of Modern Families (Rutgers 2018) explores the intersections between the sperm-banking industry, the women who select donors for their future children, and men’s experiences as sperm donors. She has been conducting research with egg donors since 2013. After hearing so many donors’ stories—from the joyful to the tragic—she knew she had to make a documentary film on this subject.

Originally from Los Angeles, now living in the Bay Area, Ricardo has nearly 20 years experience as a photojournalist for major news networks. He has received numerous awards for his work, including: Kern County Press Association Awards for “Best News Feature Film” (1997, 1999) and “Best Spot News” (1999), for stories he produced, filmed and edited. He has also worked on editing, producing and as DP for commercials and independent films in Los Angeles and at University of Southern California, film school. He is currently working on a new documentary: Different By Design: The Lives of Dyslexic Adults. Aside from his work in film and photojournalism, he is an artist and photographer, with a passion to tell the human story.
A 20+ year veteran film editor, Tina has edited over 60 films, with an emphasis on documentaries. She now brings her editing skills to THE PERFECT DONOR. Her portfolio includes: ON TIP TOE, the compelling story of the Grammy Award winning South African Musical Group and their rise above Apartheid, winner of International Documentary Association (IDA) Award and nominated for ACADEMY AWARD and EMMY AWARDS . Tina was the Lead Editor of FUEL, a documentary addressing the search for clean, sustainable energy. FUEL won THE AUDIENCE AWARD for at the 2008 SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL, and was Short Listed for the 2009 Academy Awards. Tina served as Co-Editor on THE BIG FIX, a documentary triggered by the BP Gulf Oil Spill. THE BIG FIX was the only U.S. Documentary, at the 2011 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. Tina completed HAPPENING, a Redford Center film, featuring Director, James Redford’s personal exploration into renewable energy in the U.S. Tina received her MFA from the Editing Program at the American Film Institute (AFI), and her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Fine Art/Visual Communications//Documentary Photography.
SJ (SARAH JANE) MURRAY
SJ Murray, Ph.D., is a story designer, EMMY®-nominated writer and producer and award-winning researcher and educator. By combining her expertise and experience in education, filmmaking, and (social) entrepreneurship, SJ has rapidly established herself as one of the most connected executive producers and writers in independent film and media. She is the author of three books, including Basics of Story Design, and a sought-after speaker on story and creativity. Since 2014, her purpose-driven story strategies for entrepreneurs and non-profits via AnderImage have been awarded more than a dozen international awards for branding and marketing, including the Silver Telly and Communicator Award of Excellence. SJ covers inspiring stories of social entrepreneurship for Conscious Company Media. She has hosted impact conversations at the White House, Sundance, SXSW, the United Nations, and is deeply committed to using film and story to shift the needle on important social issues. SJ's TEDx talks on story have been viewed over 250,000 times.
Gary has an extensive background in making independent social impact documentary film profitable. He has founded several media-related companies, including Transformational Media and Aware Cinema—a marketing and distribution platform for films for social change. As CEO of Ethical Markets Media, he launched the first national weekly TV series on socially responsible business to over 44 million homes. He was co-founder of BroadcastHealth.com, an early streaming media platform. Gary served as COO of Passionate Living Media a television, print, radio and internet transmedia company, as well as PlayItFWD digital distribution platform and Harmony Channel on Comcast VOD. He also worked with Healthy.com, Deepak Chopra’s MyPotential.com, Whole Life Expos and Media, Media Zone, and Inspired Media. As Impact Producer for The Perfect Donor, Gary is working to secure crucial funding for maximum impact.
Joanne coaches filmmakers on how to make world-changing documentaries that sell, and has worked with hundreds of filmmakers from around the globe. She worked as a global marketing consultant for YouTube, and ran their UK movie rental unit. She was mentored by James Schamus (producer/screenwriter Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm, Crouching Tiger, HIdden Dragon); Ted Hope (producer, In the Bedroom, 21 Grams); Laura Bickford, (producer, Traffic), and Lucy and Luis Carlos Barreto who have made over 200 films in Brazil. Joanne was the former Director of the Alliance Cinema on Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, IFP/Miami and a founder of IFP/National. She created and spearheaded the Florida Statewide Film Competition that provided $200,000 cash and services to a feature film. She writes regularly on filmmaking for Cinesource Magazine, and speaks internationally.
With a degree in electrical engineering, and a passion for music, Keith was primed for a career in the recording arts. While comparatively few people have witnessed his virtuosity on the Chapman Stick, nearly anybody exposed to popular culture within the last ten years has probably heard his work. A composer for Warner Bros. Television and Universal Music Group, Keith has written music for more than 50 national shows, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Tyra, The People’s Court, and The Bachelor. His work can be heard on MTV, VH1, ABC, CBS, and NBC, as well as on History and The Discovery Channel. Keith’s list of audio-engineering credits is as impressive as his television career. He has been trusted to mix live television performances by such major acts as Taylor Swift, Nelly Furtado, Seal, Lionel Richie, Outkast, and Ziggy Marley.
Dave is a New England-based audio and sound engineer. After earning his AA in Liberal Arts from Mitchell College in 2005, Dave went on to earn his BA in Audio from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh in 2007. Currently, Dave resides in Lowell, Massachusetts and where he works in broadcast radio, with his own show on Frank 106.3. In the past, Dave has produced New England Patriots Football for various local radio stations in the Greater Boston area. "The Perfect Donor" is Dave's first major film project as an audio and sound editor. Outside of audio, Dave enjoys skiing and hiking the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. He also enjoys cooking and photography.
Allyn is currently a Master’s Student in Bioethics at the Harvard Medical School, and works part time in the Boston Rape Crisis Center. For her undergraduate degree, she studied Anthropology at UC Berkeley with interests in bioethics, science and technology studies, and medicine. Allyn’s research documents the pre-regulatory age of elective oocyte cryopreservation, with a focus on the rise of the industry being made for egg freezing. She was a 2016 UC Berkeley Haas Scholars Fellow, Institute for International Studies Undergraduate Merit Scholar and Fellow at the Center for Technology, Society and Policy. In addition to her academic accomplishments, as a former California sorority chapter leader, Allyn has a passion for social media and community outreach and networking—especially for women in the 18 to 30 age-group.
